What is better to do: exercises or yoga?

Sara Williams, former Studied at Graduate Students

Weight loss, a strong and flexible body, glowing beautiful skin, peaceful mind, good health – whatever you may be looking for, yoga has it on offer. Yoga practice helps develop the body and mind bringing a lot of health benefits yet is not a substitute for medicine.

Although yoga is definitely a form of exercise, it is also much more than that. While several forms of exercise such as running or weightlifting aim to create a stronger body or to reach a weight-loss goal, yoga is a holistic form of mind-and-body awareness that can improve the quality of your life.

Exercise is an effective treatment option for depression in adults, but there is only minimal evidence to support its use in anxiety treatment. Yoga is a therapeutic option for depression, and it also has positive effects on anxiety disorders

However, very often, yoga is only partially understood as being limited to yoga poses. As such, its benefits are only perceived to be at the body level and we fail to realize the immense benefits of yoga offers in uniting the body, mind, and breath.

There are many forms of exercises which are followed and practiced by people all over the world. Specific workouts such as gym, aerobics, dance, etc. are forms of exercise. The various asanas practiced in yoga can also be classified as exercises.

Therefore, yoga and exercise are separate entities but do resemble each other in that they contribute to the physical health of people.
